Obituary

CHIULLI, Dr. Robert D - of Lancaster, MA passed away on January 4, 2022, at the age
of 74. He was the son of the late Mary (Mingolelli) and Anthony Chiulli.
Born in Boston and raised in Somerville, Robert attended Boston Latin School, where
he made several lifelong friends, graduated from Tufts University with a BS in
Mechanical Engineering, and went on to UMass Medical School. He settled in
Lancaster and practiced radiology for over 45 years at many Worcester area hospitals,
including Worcester City Hospital, Hubbard Hospital, Clinton Hospital, Fairlawn
Hospital, the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Manchester, NH, and clinics in
Worcester and Milford. Never losing his penchant for applying his engineering expertise
to everyday problems, Robert started Medico Systems, and held over a dozen patents
related to medical procedures.
Recently retired, "Bob" or "Doc" turned his creative energy towards the many building
projects he had planned for his home. Taking things apart, building them anew, and
restoring old relics were among his greatest joys. Learning was another joy. A lifelong
student and reader, there were very few subjects that didn't pique his curiosity and
about which he couldn't speak with some depth. He especially loved WWII history,
aviation, old cars, space, and meteorology. His appreciation of music was equally wide-
ranging, and in his earlier years he could often be found at the piano late into the night
after a long day's work. Always up for an engaging conversation, Robert enjoyed
nothing better than swapping a good story or joke with friends. He is also remembered
as a generous and dependable neighbor who often helped out quietly in times of
distress.
Robert is father to the late Robert C Chiulli and is survived by his daughter Lisa Chiulli
Lay, her husband Richard, their children Sofia, Alexandra and Sara, his sister Mary Ann
"Mac" Chiulli, her husband Robert Moore, and Cheryl Stevens, his partner of 20 years.
Funeral service and burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett, will be private. A memorial
will be planned for the spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert's memory can be made to either St Jude's Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105 (www.stjude.org) or to the Shriners' Guild Shriners Hospitals for Children, Attn: Processing Center, PO Box 947765 Atlanta, GA, 30394(www.shrinerschildrens.org).
