William P. McNamara, of Lunenburg, passed away on May 28, 2025, he was 83. Born in Boston and raised in Somerville, he was the son of the late Mary (Buckley) and Thomas McNamara. He served honorably in the Army Reserves and then began his career with the Harvard University Police Department.  He retired as a Sergeant following 43 years of service.

William was the husband of the late Anne (Mitchell) McNamara and father of Kelly DiNapoli of Tewksbury, William P. McNamara, Jr. and his wife Karen of Billerica and Kristen Hyslop and her husband John of Tewksbury. Grandfather of Michael and Kaitlyn DiNapoli, Addison, Sydney and Kassidy Hyslop. Bill is further survived by his significant other Diane Sheerer of Lunenburg and her daughters Irene Butler of Leominster and Lisa Sheerer of Dracut.

Funeral Procession from the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville on Friday morning, June 6th at 10AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, Union Sq. Somerville at 11AM. Relatives and friends invited to attend.

Calling Hours will be held Thursday, June 5th from 4:00PM to 7:00PM.

Services will conclude with burial at Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody.
