Obituary

Susan M. Murphy, 69, of Medford, MA, passed away peacefully at home on January 12, 2025, after a courageous battle with kidney disease.

She was the loving mother of Kristen Clark and her husband Michael Clark of Somerville, and Leslie McCarthy and her husband Timothy McCarthy of Medford. Adoring grandmother of Keren Clark and her partner Justin Keene of Belmont, and Kevin Clark of Somerville. Dear sister of Robert Powers of Arlington, Nancy McWeeny of Somerville, and Tricia Weber of Manhasset, NY. Beloved cousin/best friend of Elaine Buckley of Danvers. Special mother figure/friend to Nicole VanHorn of Tolland, CT. Dear aunt, niece, cousin, and friend to many more. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph Powers and Helen "Pat" Ryan Powers.

Susan was born in Cambridge and grew up in Somerville, graduating from St. Clements in 1973. She worked at Stop and Shop for 30 years. She raised her family, along with former husband Harry Murphy, in Somerville. The family home on Willow Ave was the hub for holidays and backyard barbecues. Summer vacations at Hampton Beach, NH, with extended family, were the highlight of those years. The beach was her happy place, especially surrounded by family.

Later, Susan and former husband John Kalenoski enjoyed more time on the ocean - Caribbean cruises, annual trips to Aruba, and weekends in Maine.

Susan's greatest joy came from spending time with her precious grandkids. She treasured her time with them, on countless movie and lunch dates, and supporting their endeavors. She loved watching Keren's dance recitals and competitions. She was Kevin's biggest fan at his sporting events, especially his baseball games.
