Obituary

Susan J. (nee Brady) Manning, formerly of Medford, passed away on September 18, 2023 at the Sancta Maria Nursing Facility in Cambridge, she was 95. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard F. Manning.

Susan Josephine Brady, later Manning, was born on the 14th of December 1927 in Ballyhaise, County Cavan, Ireland to James and Mary Catherine Brady.

Jo was one of 11 children, with four sisters and six brothers. She qualified as a State Registered Nurse in Manchester in the late 1940s and emigrated to Boston in 1952.

She nursed in Sancta Maria Hospital, where she also died on Monday 18th of September 2023. Coincidently, her grandmother, Roseanne McCann (fondly known as "Muddy") had been a parishioner of St. Raphael's parish, where the hospital is located from 1880-1897.

Josephine married the love of her life, Richard Manning in 1962 and they lived in Winthrop Street for about 50 years . They were devout parishioners and played an active role in parish life. She and Richard volunteered throughout the years giving a lot of their time to helping people in the community.

Josephine enjoyed having family visit her and Richard in Boston. Many nephews and nieces stayed over the years, and were grateful for the generosity shown.

Her love of Ireland never diminished and she returned on a regular basis to see her brothers and sisters, and her many nieces and nephews. Jo loved being part of family celebrations, and always enjoyed a good dance.

Jo was also known to spark debate. She always stood by her religious beliefs and the good works of Padre Pio.

Jo was predeceased by three of her sisters: Marie, Rosemund and Carmel; and her brothers Hubert, Jim, Austin and Kevin. She is survived by her sister, Imelda and her brothers Fr. Tony and Des.

Aunty Jo, you will forever remain in our hearts, and your spirit will continue to shine in our lives. Rest in eternal peace.
