Obituary

Saimphar "Pha" Gagerie was born in Jérémie, Haiti on Friday, September 12, 1947, to Cèlie (Chevalier) Gagerie and Mannsaé Gagerie.  He was one of six children. Saimphar ventured to the United States of America in the early 1980s in search of opportunity, a better life and starting his own family. Saimphar was able to accomplish all those and more.  After being in the United States for less than two years, he became a United States Citizen; He was quickly able to tap into the vast opportunities in the United States. Attending and obtaining various technical certificates and an associate degree. Education was very important for Saimphar. One of his proudest educational accomplishments was completing his math for electronics course at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He truly believed and often stated, "no one can take away what you know." In essence, he knew that when you have the knowledge, no one could take away what you knew or learned. Saimphar settled in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1984. Cambridge would become and soon became the home of Saimphar Gagerie. He lived in Cambridge for 44 years of his life.

Throughout his life, Saimphar accomplished many things, but his proudest accomplishments were his children. Prior to the birth of his first child, Saimphar helped raise and nurture various family members. Saimphar was a metaphorical father to many. In November 1985, Saimphar welcomed his first child, Ralph M. Gagerie and in less than two years, he welcomed his daughter Stephanie Gagerie in January 1987. He loved his children dearly, and they became his purpose and world. He would take them to the library, park, mall, restaurants, but most importantly church. Saimphar's faith was an integral part of who he was. He raised his children to have faith and how to pray, often teaching them to memorize scripture from The Holy Bible.

Aside from his biological family and children, Saimphar would form many connections and bonds throughout his life in Cambridge. He was a great orator and would often spend his days into evenings sharing stories and debating soccer matches with his close friends at the barber shop. The acts of service and kindness done by Saimphar are too numerous to tell, but he lived his life in away that honored, loved and cared for people in the community. Throughout his life, he shared his love for soccer, gardening, the beach, walking, nature and his family. Saimphar's family truly extended beyond the people who shared his last name and blood, his family was anyone who he can share a smile or story with.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 16th in St. John the Evangelist Church, 2254 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge at 10:00AM.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.

Calling hours will be held in the church prior to the mass from 9:00AM to 10:00AM.

Services will conclude with interment at Cambridge Cemetery, Cambridge.
