Obituary

Rosa DaEstrela Moniz Cabral Teves was born in Sao Miguel, Azores in the town or Ribeirinha on March 14, 1939 to parents Aldina Moniz and Luis Salvadore Cabral. Rosa lost her mother at a young age and was loved dearly by her second mother, Maria Jose Amaral.

She was blessed to have brothers Jose Manual Cabral, Antonio Cabral and sisters Arminda Cabral Costa, Beatrice Cabral Teves and Isabel Cabral Santos. As a young adult, she moved from Portugal to France where she nannied, enjoying vacations with the family in the Swiss Alps and remembers eating delicious chocolates! She returned to Portugal to marry Joao (John) de Deus Silva.

They migrated to America soon after, becoming the Teves and embarked on their American dream of starting a family and owning their own home through hard work. Religion and devotion were very important to the couple who welcomed a son, John. Rosa lost her husband John to cancer in 1998 but the family grew back to four members in 2000 when she welcomed her granddaughter Jaden Marissa.

Rosa fought a brave battle with cancer over the span of more than 20 years. She moved from her longtime home of Boston, MA to Las Cruces, NM in 2021. She loved short walks, riding in the car, seeing the sites, shopping, and sitting in the sun while people watching from her patio. In the fall of 2021 Rosa discontinued her cancer treatment, putting her last days into God's hands, devoting herself to prayer and solitude. She had a special devotion to the Infant Jesus, as did her husband John. She loved the Sound of Music and Shirley Temple movies.

She leaves behind her son John, his wife Nancy, and their daughter Jaden as well as siblings and their families, nieces, nephews, and friends.

She lived her life by her rules and was a fighter until the end.

In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to Hospice who cared so compassionately for her in her last days at her family's side. She was lovingly cared for by Sierra Healthcare Home Health and Hospice in Las Cruces, NM or if you so choose, please donate to a Hospice service near you.
