Peter E.
Hughes
May 11, 1963 — Nov 2, 2024
Peter E. Hughes, a lifelong resident of Somerville, passed away suddenly on November 2, 2024, at the age of 61. Born in Brookline and raised in Somerville, he was the cherished son of the late Patricia (McGreal) and Peter J. Hughes.
Peter was loved by everyone fortunate enough to meet him. Known for being the life of the party, he made friends wherever he went. His independence was evident as he enjoyed walking around the city to Davis Square and beyond or taking bus rides to his favorite destinations. A longtime member of the Walnut Street Center, he formed many meaningful friendships and cherished his time there.
He had a passion for bowling, often spending evenings at Sacco Bowl Haven, and enjoyed unwinding with a few Bud Lights at Sligo Pub with his father. Peter delighted in the parades throughout the city and loved his daily trips to Dunkin' for a new cup and a hot coffee. Whether dancing an Irish jig or singing along to Frank Sinatra, he filled every moment with joy. Summers at Hampton Beach were a highlight for him, where he created lifelong friends and memories.
Peter was known for his incredible sense of humor, always ready with a joke or a witty one-liner. His fun-loving spirit will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to know him.
He is survived by his devoted sister, Ellen Hughes of Somerville, and his cherished nieces and nephews: Michael and Alexandra Shamshak, Kellie-Ann Foley and her husband Christopher, and Ashlee Scala, along with his great-nephew Conor Foley and great-niece Emma Foley. He is also survived by his dear friend, Lisa Stoico. Peter was preceded in death by his loving sister, Patricia Hughes-Scala.
A Funeral Mass celebrating Peter's life will be held in St. Ann Church, 399 Medford Street, Somerville on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at 11:00AM. Relatives and friends invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Peter's memory can be made to the Walnut Street Center, 291 Mystic Ave, Medford, MA 02155
