Patricia Lin
Reedy-Joyce
May 18, 1938 — Mar 17, 2023
Patricia Lin Reedy Joyce
Patricia Reedy Joyce, owner of The Jade Tree jewelry stores in Worcester and the Boston area, and longtime Framingham resident, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2023, surrounded by family. Pat is remembered as a pioneering businesswoman, for her support of Chinese art, and for her love for her large family.
Pat was born Lin Pei Yi on May 18, 1938 in Fuzhou, China. She was the youngest of four children born to Lin You Chi, a prominent merchant, and his wife Tang-Lin You Xin. After World War II her family migrated to Taipei, Taiwan to escape Communism. In Taipei she attended a western girls' school where she converted to Catholicism and took the name Patricia. She met her first husband, Jim Reedy, an American engineer working in Asia. They married in Taipei in 1961 and moved to the United States the same year. They eventually settled in Framingham, MA to raise their four children.
Pat opened her first store, Oriental Arts, in Wellesley in the early 1970s. She moved her business to the Worcester Galleria, where she ran The Jade Tree for over 20 years. The Jade Tree was a popular shopping destination for its selection of Chinese art and gifts, and a wide array of jewelry. Pat expanded The Jade Tree with three more stores in Cambridge and Boston.
Besides her business, Pat was active in politics as a Republican donor and member of Zonta International, a service organization for women. After her husband Jim passed away in 1990 Pat started a silk import business. She was a partner in silk farms in China, and manufactured silk scarves and beauty creams. In 1995 she met her second husband, Charles Joyce. They married in 1999. Pat and Charles enjoyed traveling, hiking, debating politics, and spending time with their children and grandchildren,
Pat leaves behind her husband Charles, her children Jim (Astrid), Michelle (John) Jeanette and Chrissy (Chris), step-children Anson, Neal (Princess) and Carla (Giannis), and 14 grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
The Reedy family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Compassus (Melanie, Gladys, Shannon, Elena and Leiby) for their support during Pat's final months.
