Obituary

Power, Chris (Michael) of Somerville, MA passed away peacefully on July 31, 2023, surrounded by his family.  Born January 15, 1934, in Shanagolden, Co. Limerick, Ireland.  He leaves his loving wife Anna (Nolan) of 68 years, his four children; Margaret Power and her late husband Mark (Norfolk, MA), Brendan Power (Somerville, MA), Joann Hablitz and her husband Charlie (Melrose, MA) and Bridget Power (Somerville MA).  He will be dearly missed by his grandsons Ronny McCarthy and his wife Jessica (Henniker, NH), Matthew Power (Canton, MA), Devin Power (Norfolk, MA) and Ryan Hablitz and his wife Isabella (Watertown), and his great grandsons Ronny Jr. (Albany, NH) and Braedan McCarthy (Henniker, NH).    Chris also had 10 siblings, Joe Power and his wife Mary (Woburn MA), Jackie Power and his wife Mary (Cavan, Ireland), his sister-in-law Josie Power (Woburn MA) and sisters, Ita Power and Celine Morrisey in England, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Chris grew up in Shanagolden, County Limerick where he worked hard, and enjoyed his youth, he moved to London, England where he met his wife Anna from County Tipperary, Ireland.  He immigrated from Ireland in 1958 and settled with his family in Somerville, MA.   He worked at the  Harvard University Freshman Dining Hall for many years until his retirement.  Chris enjoyed returning to Ireland to spend time with his family and friends over the years, he and his wife Anna also loved going to Irish dances, and he loved to sing.   Chris spent his days feeding and watching the birds for hours on end, and he loved to sit on the porch and enjoy the sunshine, listening to Irish music and reciting his favorite poems.  He loved to tell jokes and have a good laugh and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.   Chris loved all the Boston sports, but he especially looked forward to the fall and watching the Patriot games, as he said he lived for football.

He was the beloved husband of 68 years to Anna M. (Nolan) Power. Devoted father of Margaret Power and her late husband Mark, Brendan Power, Joann Hablitz and her husband Charlie, and Bridget Power. Loving grandfather of Ronny McCarthy, Matthew Power, Devin Power, and Ryan Hablitz. Cherished great-grandfather of Ronny McCarthy Jr and Braeden McCarthy. Chris is predeceased by his parents John and Bridget (Normile) Power of Shanagolden,Co.Limerick Ireland,  his brothers, Dennis, and Patrick (England) James (Woburn)  sisters Mary Faferlick, Iowa, Josie Auclair, Ellen Curtain, Billerica,  and their late spouses Jim Faferlick, Art Curtain and Maurice Aucla. He was the brother in-law of Chris and Kathleen (Nolan) Mullahy, Thurles, Co. Tipperary, Ireland, Joe and Breda (Nolan) Fallon, Two Mile Borris, Thurles, Co. Tipperary, Ireland and Joe and Maureen (Nolan) Ruth, Weymouth. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

A Funeral procession will be held on Saturday August 5th from the George L. Doherty Funeral Home 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville at 9:00AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Catherine Church, 179 Summer St., Somerville at 10:00AM.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.

Calling hours will be Friday August 4th from 4:00PM to 7:00PM. Services will conclude with interment at Knollwood Cemetery, Canton. Please meet directly at the main gate of the cemetery.
