Mary Ellen "Mae" O'Leary (Flaherty) of Somerville passed away peacefully in her home on May 26th 2023 surrounded by loving family. She was 91 years young.
She was born on May 1st 1932 in Boyle, County Roscommon, Ireland to the late Patrick O'Flaherty and Kathleen O'Flaherty (Boylan). She moved to America in 1949 to live with her sister in Dorchester and work as a nanny for the Cherniss family of Newton MA. She became a United State Citizen in 1955 and married her beloved husband Francis X. O'Leary, Sr. on June 8th 1957.
She was the dear sister of Marion Flaherty, Anne O'Leary and her late husband Dano, Doreen Chase and her late husband Bobby all of Quincy, Rosaleen and Breedge Flaherty, Margaret Whelan and her late husband Tom all of Boyle, Co. Roscommon, IRE. She was predeceased by her siblings Patricia, Lilly, Bobby, Paddy and, most recently, Noel Flaherty. Sister-in-law of Catherine O'Leary of Wilmington and John O'Leary of Somerville.
The beloved wife of the late Francis "Frank" O'Leary Sr. The devoted mother of Patrick O'Leary of Casco Maine, Daniel O'Leary of Hanson MA, Robert O'Leary, his wife Catherine O'Leary of Whitman MA, Francis O'Leary Jr. of Somerville, Sean O'Leary of Somerville, Ellen O'Connor (O'Leary) and her husband James O'Connor of Billerica.
The Loving grandmother of Tonya-Kelly, Amy, Nicole, Erin, Michael, Sean, Daniel, Kristen, Megan, Bridget, Catherine, Siobhan, James and Frank.
Great grandmother to Kevin, Christopher, Joshua, Ashelley, Leah, Mason, Grace Mae, Harper, and Isaiah.
Great Great Grandmother to Autumn and Madison.
Loving Aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Procession from the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville on Thursday morning, June 1st at 9AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Catherine of Genoa Church at 10AM. Relatives and friends invited to attend.
Calling Hours Wednesday 4pm-7pm.
Interment MA National Cemetery, Bourne.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary's memory can be made to St. Catherine of Genoa Church, 185 Summer St, Somerville, MA 02143.
