Marie Sylvie C., departed this life peacefully on June 7, 2025, in Arlington, Massachusetts, at the age of 85.
A Life of Faith and Service
Born in Torbeck, Haiti, on February 1, 1940, Marie Sylvie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and a woman of unwavering Christian faith. In 1972, she married Jean Vitesse in Chantal, Haiti, and together they raised three children, one of whom sadly passed away in infancy.
With strength, grace, and resilience, she worked alongside her husband in agriculture to provide for her family. She instilled in her children a strong sense of duty, integrity, and perseverance.
A Devoted Servant of Christ
Marie Sylvie accepted Christ in 1972 and became a faithful member of the Baptist churches in Ducis and Les Cayes, Haiti. She served in various ministries, including Sunday School, church choirs, women's fellowship, and evangelism. After moving to the United States in 2018, she regularly attended Services at Holy Bible Baptist Church in Somerville, MA.
She was widely known for her prayerful spirit, love of Scripture, and heartfelt warmth. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she shared God's message with humility and joy.
Cherished and Remembered
Marie Sylvie is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Jean Vitesse.;
Daughter/Son, Marie-Ange and Joseph Fidell;
her grandchildren, Landegie, Angelee, and Samuel;
her son-in-law, Paul Guerrier;
her cousin, Laurette Bernard;
many loving nieces and nephews, including Denis, Evelyn, Edit, Jacqueline, Guerda, Rev. Gustane, Marie Benette. Ludger, Mirlene, Rolande, Manno,

In Loving Memory
Marie Sylvie will be remembered as a pillar of faith, a gentle and giving soul, and a woman of peace. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
I have fought the good fight; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith. From now on, there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness. The Lord, the righteous Judge, will give it to me on that day, and not only to me but also to everyone who loved his appearance. (2 Timothy 4:7-8)
Calling hours will be held in the George L. Doherty Funeral Home 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville, on Sunday, June 22nd from 3:00PM to 5:00PM
A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 23rd at Holy Bible Baptist Church 64 College Ave, Somerville at 9:00AM. Visitation prior to mass from 8:00AM to 9:00AM.
Services will conclude Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington.
