Luis Melendez Rios, of Clearwater, Florida and formerly of Somerville and Cambridge, passed away surrounded by family on Friday, November 4, 2022, he was 86. Born in Puerto Rico, son of the late Jose Melendez and Maria Rios. A hard worker, Luis worked for many years as a cook in several area restaurants including Vic's Egg on One in North Cambridge and Deli Delight in Fresh Pond where he made many friends and acquaintances over the years. Prior to retiring he was a cook for the Visiting Nurses Association in Somerville.

The beloved husband of 35 years to Patricia (MacDonald) Rios, together they retired to Florida where Luis loved fishing, most especially the saltwater beaches of Clearwater. He enjoyed spending many hours in the sunshine and salt air. He loved baseball and above all he enjoyed time spent with family.

Luis is further survived by his children, Milagros, Theresa and Carlos Melendez and Nicholas J. Rios, as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was the dear brother of Teresa and Jorge Melendez and the late Victor Rios.

Calling Hours will be held in the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville on Thursday, November 10th from 4:00PM -7:00PM with a prayer service to begin at 6:30PM. Relatives and friends invited to attend.

Interment will be private.
