Lorraine DeAmato, 74, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2026, following a brief but courageous battle with lung cancer.
Born on December 28, 1951, in Boston, MA, Lorraine was the beloved daughter of the late Ralph DeAmato and Elena (Perracchi) DeAmato.
Lorraine dedicated much of her life to education as a science teacher at St. Mary’s in Lynn, Massachusetts. Throughout her career, she shared her knowledge and passion for learning with countless students. Following her retirement, Lorraine returned to her childhood home in Somerville, Massachusetts, to be closer to the family she loved so dearly.
Lorraine knew how to appreciate life's simple pleasures. She especially loved her trips to Twin River Casino in Rhode Island, where she would make her famous “weekly deposit” while catching up with the many friends she made along the way. Whether she was working on her diamond dot creations, painting, or singing along to her favorite Broadway songs, Lorraine always found ways to enjoy herself and make the most of each day.
A loyal Boston sports fan, Lorraine could always be found cheering on her beloved Celtics and Patriots. Win or lose, her loyalty never wavered, and she rarely missed a game. Lorraine was also a devoted Catholic and faithful parishioner of St. John’s Church in Cambridge.
Above all, Lorraine cherished her family, her friends, and the memories they created together. Her sense of humor, spirited personality, and love for those around her will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Lorraine is survived by her loving siblings, Norbert DeAmato and his wife, Laura, of Lexington, Massachusetts, Susan DeAmato and her partner Rob Stiegman of Canton, Massachusetts; and Maria Estey of Somerville, Massachusetts.
She was also a beloved aunt to her many nieces and nephews, including her cherished four-legged “dog nephew,” Gus.
Lorraine also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends whose lives were made brighter by knowing her.
Though she will be deeply missed, Lorraine will forever be remembered for her love of family, her unwavering Boston sports loyalty, her trips to the casino, and the countless memories, smiles, and laughs she shared with those she loved. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A funeral procession will be held from the George L. Doherty Funeral Home 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville on Thursday October 22 at 10:00AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. John he Evangelist Church, Cambridge at 11:00AM.
