Lea Gartland, a lifelong Somerville resident, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2023 following a long battle against kidney disease, she was 74. She was the first child of Eileen M. (Slattery) and John J. Gartland, Jr. Lea graduated from Somerville High School with the Class of 1966 and went on to the Somerville Hospital School of Nursing, completing the program in 1969. As a registered nurse, Lea served patients at Somerville Hospital for nearly 30 years and Lawrence Memorial Hospital before retiring.

She was the dear sister of Gary Gartland and his wife Sondra Madison of Georgia, Paula Gartland of Medford and David Gartland of Georgia. Loving Aunt of Kristyn Gartland Ferrelli, Ryan Gartland and his wife Katelyn, all of Somerville and Terrence Gartland of Medford. Great- Aunt of Bailey, Vanessa, Evelyn, Reese and Willow. Also survived by many cousins and friends who will miss her dearly.

Visitation will be held on Friday morning, August 4th in St. Catherine of Genoa Church, 185 Summer Street, Somerville from 10:00AM – 11:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated at 11:00AM. Relatives and friends invited to attend.

Interment at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford will be held at a later date.
