It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jesus Marquez, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and loyal friend. He passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was 61 years old. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, and unwavering dedication to those he loved. 

Born in Puerto Rico and raised in Dorchester, he was the cherished son of the late Tiburcio Marquez and Luisa Rivera Rodriguez. He was a proud graduate of South Boston High School and attended Newbury College for culinary arts. 

He was the devoted husband of Gladys Marquez. Married at Saint Mary's Church in Cambridge, they celebrated more than 39 years together. Together they raised their family in Somerville. He was a proud father to Jesus Marquez, Melissa Marquez, Manuel Martin Marquez, and Luisa Marquez . He was also a loving grandfather to Jesus Marquez, III, Jeremiah Marquez, and Paris Marquez, who brought him immense joy. He is also the dear brother of Ana Marquez, Nancy Ortega, Katherine Mendoza, and the late JoseAntonio Ortega. 

For more than 27 years, Jesus dedicated his career to the Hynes and Boston Convention Center, where he served as a Kitchen Manager. He became a respected leader and mentor. Known for an unmatched work ethic, many described him as someone who “worked like a machine.” He was often the first to arrive each morning and the last to leave at night. He embraced every challenge with a positive attitude and a warm smile. He took great pride in his work and cared deeply for his employees, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. 

Jesus earned the admiration of colleagues across the country, frequently traveling to support major conventions and events in cities, including New Orleans, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Detroit, and Tampa. Those who worked alongside him often described him as a legend in his field, not only for his skill and dedication, but also for his compassion. Whether helping someone find a job or apartment, offering rides, assisting with language barriers, or simply lending a hand to anyone in need, Jesus never hesitated to put others before himself. His legacy is not only the work he accomplished, but the countless lives he touched through his generosity and kindness. 

His Puerto Rican heritage was also a source of immense pride throughout his life. A true Boricua at heart, he loved salsa music and looked forward to sharing traditional meals with family, especially arroz con glandules, peril, and his favorite, homemade pastels. 

Above all else, he was a family man. He found happiness in the simple things in life. Nothing made him happier than seeing family and friends gathered around the table. His favorite hobby was enjoying a good meal, and nothing made him happier than eating the delicious home-cooked meals prepared by his wife, Gladys.

Thanksgiving was one of his favorite times of the year. Every year, he looked forward to enjoying traditional Salvadoran panes . Christmas also held a special place in his heart, asit was also his birthday. He loved decorating the house with Christmas lights, making sure every corner reflected the joy of the season. 

Although our hearts ache in his absence, we rejoice in knowing that he has been welcomed into the loving arms of God. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Visiting hours will be held in the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville, Tuesday morning August 4, 2026, from 9:00am - 12:00 noon, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Benedict Church, Somerville at 12:30pm. Relatives and friends invited. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
