James F. Shannon, Jr., 90, of Somerville, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. James was the son of the late James and Mathilda Shannon and will be remembered for his genuine love for his family. Even at 90, he amazed those around him with his clear mind, perceptive observations and unmistakable wit. James attended Bentley University where he studied accounting and built the foundation for his career. He spent more than 35 years as an Accounting Manager at Coca-Cola, taking tremendous pride in the quality and accuracy of every aspect of his work. After retiring from Coca-Cola, James continued working at Star Market grocery store until the age of 84. He will always be remembered as a perfectionist who approached every task with care, precision, and commitment. Beyond work, James enjoyed a lifelong passion for the Boston Bruins and collectible trains, interests that brought much enjoyment over the years. James was the devoted husband of the love of his life, Doris, and a loving father to June Freund and husband Fred; Linda Cahill and husband Paul; Jimmy Shannon and wife Mary; and Jill Nicholas and late husband Peter. He was the proud grandfather of 12 grandchildren, who were the center of his world: Shawn, Brendan, Paul, Adam, Nicholas, Brian, Kayla (predeceased), Jared, Haley, Rachel, Matthew and Katelyn. He was also joyfully awaiting the arrival of twingreat-granddaughters. James is also survived by his sister, Theresa Alves and husband Kevin and was predeceased by his beloved sister, Mary O’Brien and late husband Eugene. James also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, all of whom he adored, as well as many extended family members and close neighbors.
