Obituary

Nealon, Edward F. – Of Medford, passed away with his family by his side on April 5, 2022. He was 93.
Eddie was the fourth child born to Alice (McKay) Nealon and Joseph B. Nealon in Boston in 1928 and spent his early years in East Boston. He enjoyed many penny ferry boat rides across Boston Harbor with his father as the boat captain. Eddie and his family moved permanently to their beloved summer home on Hampton Circle in Hull and he spent many wonderful summers on Nantasket Beach and Paragon Park. He endured a long commute from Hull to Boston College High School in the South End, and was a proud graduate of BCHS in 1946. One of Eddie's first jobs was as a meter reader for the Hull Electric Company. Eddie spent his young adulthood enjoying his friends, the dances at the Paragon Park Pavilion, his boat and convertible rides around Boston Harbor and Cape Cod, and adventures in the Berkshires. Many will remember Eddie's nickname as "Kewpie", for the resemblance he bore to the doll.
Eddie served two years as a Corporal in the U.S. Army Reserves, stateside at a chemical unit in Maryland during the Korean War. He was very proud of his military service and told many colorful stories about his time as an electrical lineman and bartender in the Officer's Club. After his discharge, he worked as an advertising executive for Dole Publishing of Somerville for many years. He married the love of his life, Mary Elizabeth Mahoney of Milton, in September of 1965, and had a devoted 44-year marriage until her passing in 2009. Eddie was the loving and proud father of Jeffrey E. Nealon of Medford, Diane M. Nealon and her husband David G. Thomas of Norfolk, and Debra C. Nealon of Methuen. He was the loving grandfather of Sarah J. Nealon, Meghan L. Nealon, Grace E. Hunt, Sean E. Hunt and Connor M. Thomas and the loving step grandfather of Ethan I. Thomas and Emma L. Thomas. Eddie was the dear brother of the late Joseph Nealon, John Nealon and Margaret Cox. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Eddie will be remembered for his quick wit, devotion to his family, love of the beach, Cape Cod and Big Band jazz, his fondness for Sullivan's at Castle Island, diehard fandom of the New England Patriots and, above all, his charming storytelling of all his life adventures. He touched many lives with his gentle, kind spirit and will be missed profoundly and deeply.
