Mercer, Edra A. (Dorman) - Of Somerville, passed away peacefully in her home just 5 days shy of her 101 birthday. She was 100 years young.  Born and raised in Newtonville, Canada, she was the daughter of the late William and Carrie (Caldwell) Dorman.

Edra's journey through life was marked by her boundless curiosity, dedication to learning, and profound love for her family.

After graduating from high school, Edra pursued her academic passions with unwavering determination. She earned her degrees in art, business and a master's in education, which paved the way for a long and impactful career as a Director of Early Childhood Education. Her role allowed her to ignite curiosity and joy in young minds, and she found immense satisfaction in witnessing the spark of discovery in her students' eyes. Edra believed deeply in the power of learning, often reflecting that it was one of life's most valuable lessons, whether the experiences were uplifting or challenging.

A lifelong reader, Edra immersed herself in the rich history of the world through books, finding inspiration and knowledge in its many narratives. Her intellectual curiosity extended beyond the pages, as she ventured to all seven continents, including a memorable trip to Antarctica. These travels enriched her life and provided a vast array of experiences that she cherished deeply.

In her leisure time, Edra embraced her creative side through painting, drawing, knitting, and sewing. She found joy in capturing the beauty of her surroundings and expressing her artistic vision. Her creativity was a reflection of her vibrant spirit and zest for life.

Above all, Edra's greatest pride and joy was her family. She valued every moment spent with them, often expressing her gratitude and love with the heartfelt sentiment, "We are so lucky we are all together." Her family was her world, and she nurtured those relationships with warmth and devotion.  Edra leaves behind a legacy of love, learning, and exploration.

Beloved wife of the late James Mercer. Devoted mother of Stuart W. Mercer and his wife Gina of Somerville, Gary J. Mercer and his late wife Lynn of MD, Susan C. Byrnes and her husband John of Pembroke, Sandra J. Favaloro and her husband Anthony of N.C., and Wendy E. Brown and her husband Richard of Somerville. Loving grandmother of Christopher J. Brown, Stacey F. Barsa, Amy Alajajian, Michael Favaloro, Richard Favaloro, Kristie Campbell, and Jocelyn Casey. Dear great-grandmother of James, Jack, Katelyn, Riley, Tyler, Emma, Lilly, Wyatt, and Colton. She is predeceased by 2 brothers and 5 sisters. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Edra was laid to rest with her beloved husband James at Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge, MA
