Obituary

Daniel F. Lupo, Jr.--44, Recently of Melrose and formerly of Bradenton, Florida and Somerville, died unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, November 29, 2016. Born and raised in Somerville, he was the cherished son of Kathleen (Othmer) Lupo and the late Daniel F. Lupo, Sr.

Danny was a graduate of Matignon High School with the Class of 1991. A star athlete, he wore #7 for both hockey and football. He excelled at both sports, on the field senior year he was responsible for six touchdowns during the first half of their game against East Boston in the pouring rain. He was highlighted by Channel 5 and Mike Lynch's "High Five" program. But it was his love of hockey and his skills on the ice that earned him full scholarships to several colleges. He accepted an offer from Northeastern University where he earned his bachelors in criminal justice. Eventually his love of hockey would bring him to Florida where he owned and coached his own youth hockey team the Florida Everblades. He also founded Lupo's Professional Hockey Institute, which he owned and operated for 15 years.

In addition to his mother Kathleen, Danny is survived by his sister, Lisa Botelho of Melrose and he was a devoted uncle of Jonathan and Jaret Botelho and their dog, Mason. He is further survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
