Hughes, Catherine (Cosgrove) -- Of Somerville, passed away at home after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, October 22, 2022. She was 67.

Born and raised in Somerville, Cathy was the devoted daughter of Joan (Vangel) Cosgrove and the late Charles M. Cosgrove.

She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas J. Hughes and the loving mother of Colleen and her husband David Trahan, Patrick Hughes, Kevin Hughes and his fiancée Joanny Tineo, and Connor Hughes. She was the cherished sister of Karen Cosgrove, Chuck Cosgrove, Kelly Crowley,

Colleen Leach, Chrissy Kewley, and Kerry Earley and their spouses. She is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and friends and was the aunt of the late Emily Carreiro.

Cathy was a lifelong teacher. She began her career at the Little Flower School in Somerville and spent several years at St. Clement and St. Francis of Assisi in Medford before finally settling into the Kennedy School in Somerville, where she taught first grade from the late 90s until her retirement in 2020. She taught hundreds of students how to read and write, but also how to be good, caring people. Cathy also spent several decades working for the Somerville Recreation Department alongside some of her best friends, where she taught ceramics and was a summer

park leader around the city and at the Kidstop program. Her dedication to the children and families of Somerville is unmatched and will never be forgotten.
