Obituary

Doherty, Brian P. - Retired Medford Police Officer of 32 years-  Of Medford, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. He was 76 years old.

Born in Medford, he was the son of the late MPD Sgt. Francis P. and Evelyn T. (MacLean) Doherty.  Brian enjoyed the simpler things in life. He loved his family dearly especially his beloved grandchildren. He would always boast with pride about all their accomplishments. On his down time you could find him in The Garage with a Miller Lite in one hand, the tv remote in the other and his best friend  Mikey Lopez by his side.  He enjoyed fishing and most of all his trips to Colebrook and Pittsburgh NH with his beloved wife Jane where she famously pulled her trophy fish at "The Shrine Hole" earning her life long bragging rights.  He was a proud Marine and served his country in The Vietnam War.  He later served his community for 32 years as a Medford Police Officer where his legacy is well respected to this day.  His badge number 137 lives on and is proudly worn by his son Officer Derek Doherty who carries on the Doherty tradition.  He was a man of few words and the king of the one liner.  His sense of humor was as dry as toast.  He was known by his friends as "B." He was a husband, a father, a friend, and a Papa.  He will be missed dearly, but he leaves behind countless funny memories that will be talked about for years to come and the Legend of "B" will live on in infamy.

Beloved husband of Jane M. (Ward) Doherty. Devoted father of Derek Doherty of Medford and David Doherty and his wife Stephanie of Wilmington. Loving grandfather of Madalyn Anne and Brian Robert Doherty. Cherished brother of Alan Doherty and his wife Jane, Maureen Fowler and her late husband Daniel C., Patricia Cashman and her husband Steve and the late Thomas K Doherty. Dear brother-in-law of Nancy Natale and her husband Ed, the late William F. Ward jr. and Cathleen R. Ward. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
