McFarland, Barbara J. (Hegarty) – Of Mendon, formerly of Somerville and Cambridge, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024 at home surrounded by her family.

She was born and raised in Cambridge. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Grace D. Hegarty.

She lived a life rich in love and joy, particularly cherishing the time spent with her family. Her greatest delight came from being with her grandchildren, whose presence brought her immense happiness and fulfillment.

In her leisure time, Barbara had a keen interest in staying informed about the world. She enjoyed watching the news and keeping up with current events, always eager to engage in thoughtful conversations about the latest developments. Additionally, Barbara had a deep appreciation for nature, finding joy and tranquility in the presence of loons and the beauty of the night sky, where she loved to gaze in search of the moon.

Beloved mother of Heather McFarland of Somerville, and Tara Parrino and her husband Ronnie of Mendon. Proud grandmother of Nicholas, Peyton and Jacob. Cherished sister of Patricia O'Leary and her late husband Michael of South Dennis, and Maureen Conners and her husband James of Wells, Maine. Second mom to Colleen and cousin (sister) to Peggy. She is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Calling Hours will be held in the George L. Doherty Funeral Home 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville, on THURSDAY, August 8th from 4:00PM to 7:00PM. A prayer services will be held Thursday at 6:30PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be private.
